New Operations Center Nears Completion

July 28, 2020

The new
Operations Center is moving right along – and employees will be moving in before we know it

Located at the intersection of NC Hwy 43 N and NC 264, the new Operations Center will house three buildings:

  • Engineering and Operations – This two-story building will house the Health Clinic, Call Center, and Control Center (formerly called Station One) on the first floor, along with a Crew Leader area complete with conference rooms and offices, men’s and women’s locker rooms with showers, and a large breakroom/kitchen area.

Electric, Water Resources, Gas, and GIS Data Services offices are located on the second floor, along with several conference rooms, huddle spaces, and a coffee bar.

  • Systems Support – The Meter, Load Management, Gas, and Water Resources shops are located in this building, along with the Water & Gas Calibration Lab. This building also has smaller satellite spaces for the IT Help Desk and Facilities Maintenance.
  • Central Stores Warehouse – Materials and yard lay down area will provide all the resources crews need.

Getting in and out of the complex is straightforward. If you work primarily at the Operations Center, you will receive a sticker for your personal vehicle that will allow you access to the parking lot in front of the Engineering and Operations building. To get there, you’ll turn f Highway 43 onto Rock Spring Road, then take a left into the Operations Center, bear left at the traffic island, and the parking lot will be on your right. Employees parking in this lot will enter the work areas through either the Engineering and Operations building (with your badge) or the gate in the fence next to the building, and then make their wayYou will use your badge to re-enter and pass through the Engineering and Operations building to go back to the employee parking lot.

Employees in GUC vehicles will take a similar route off of Highway 43 and Rock Spring Road, but bear right at the traffic island or turn into the parking lot right next to Stores Warehouse.

If you are an employee not stationed at the Operations Center, then you will turn directly off of Highway 43 into the GUC property at the Visitors’ Entrance. There is a parking lot for your use on your left, immediately before the access gate

Videos of how to access the lots are located on a new SharePoint page here. This page will also have more information about the Operations Center, including area and building maps. More specific information about the move, parking, and access will be given to employees who will work at the new Operations Center through meetings within their respective departments.

This is an exciting time in GUC history! The new Operations Center should keep us safe from flooding, but more importantly, set us up to be able to fulfill our mission for years to come.
