GUC’s “Smooth Operators” are back to competing in person this summer and fall at several state and national wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) operations competitions. These events are designed to test the diverse skills required for the operation and maintenance of wastewater facilities, collection systems, and laboratories. GUC’s team includes WWTP Operators Bryon Orr, Julius Phillips, Kyle Meeks, Charlie Buck, and Steve Hedgepeth.  

In August, they competed at the “Carolina Nationals Brawl at the Beach 6” in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, during the 2021 South Carolina Environmental Conference. The events included Collections, Lab, Safety, Maintenance, and Process Control. Congratulations to our team for coming in 2nd in the Collections event, and 6th Overall. They have two more competitions ahead of them, one of which is a national event.
