December 2024 Board Notes
At the December Board meeting, this year’s iLead Class received awards as part of their graduation. You can read more about it here.
Next, the auditing firm Cherry Bekaert presented their audit findings for GUC’s 2023/24 Fiscal Year. The report highlighted an “unmodified opinion” or what some would call a “clean audit” with no deficiencies, weaknesses, misstatements, etc. Board members thanked the staff for all their hard work.
Commissioners voted to accept a $3.1M grant from the US Department of Transportation for a natural gas project. The project will replace 3.23 miles of steel mains, vintage plastic, and PVC pipes which were installed in the 1960s and 70s. This will further enhance our gas system’s reliability and reduce the chances of leaks (methane emissions).
The Electric Department presented information about the upcoming Community Solar project. When completed this spring, residential customers can opt to pay a small fee to help reduce carbon emissions. Participating customers can subscribe to up to five panels at a one-time cost of $35 per panel. They will then see a monthly subscription fee, along with an energy credit on their bill which will work out to a charge of about $3.05 per panel per month. The Board will vote on the final rates in January with subscriptions expected to open in February, and the facility expected to open later this spring.
