Service Awards

Josh Dickens / 25 Years

Josh Dickens, Water Resources Systems Maintenance Crew Leader, recently celebrated 25 years of service with Greenville Utilities. His responsibilities include maintaining more than 3,500 fire hydrants and almost 14,000 valves within our water system. His crew is also first on the scene for any large water main breaks. It’s their job to shut down the mains and notify customers. Josh is also responsible for our flushing program, Operation Spring Clean, a massive undertaking that includes 13 weeks of cleaning all 631 miles of water distribution lines.

“There are many things I’ve enjoyed at GUC over the last 25 years, but the different people I’ve had a chance to work with tops the list,” he said. “I am the employee I am today because others poured their knowledge into me. A big reason I have 25 years of service is because the people I get to work with enjoy their jobs, which creates a great work environment.”

Josh and his wife, Ivela, have been married 24 years and have two children, Nathanael and Abigail. Josh enjoys weight lifting and travelling with his family.

Lee Eakes / 20 Years

Customer Contact Representative II Lee Eakes recently celebrated 20 years with Greenville Utilities. Lee helps customers throughout the day to understand their bills, start and stop utility services, and transfer services to new locations. He also assists builders with new applications. Lee and his coworkers are often a customer’s first contact with GUC, either in person or on the phone. “I love knowing that when I come to work each day, I am appreciated,” he said. “GUC leadership and teamwork throughout the entire customer service team is outstanding.” In his free time Lee enjoys hunting, fishing, and spending quality time with his daughter, who attends UNCW. He also enjoys time with his parents at their place on the Pamlico Sound.
