GUC Sponsors Free Books for Employees' Children
June 14, 2017

Do you have a child or dependent under the age of five? GUC has recently partnered with the Books From Birth Early Literacy Coalition and the United Way of Pitt County (UWPC) to bring you an exciting new program. The partnership involves GUC sponsoring the cost of enrollment for employees to participate in Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, which made its way to Pitt County in 2016.

"Imagination Library is one more way for United Way to get closer to meeting its goal of having every child in Pitt County enter school ready to learn," said UWPC Director Jim Cieslar. "Reading aloud to babies and young children promotes bonding and pre-literacy skills, grows vocabulary, and builds connections in the brain that prepare children for success in school and life. Home library size has a significant impact and is strongly linked to academic success. This goes for all families — of all education and occupation levels. "

How it Works

The program delivers an age-appropriate book directly to your home each month for children from birth to 5 years old. By the time the child reaches 5 years old, they could have a home library of 60 books!

To sign up, visit the Human Resources page on MyGUC. Print and fill out the "Imagination Library Sign Up Form" and return it to Debbie Jones at JONESDH@guc.com or by inter-office mail. For questions, call Debbie at 551-1473.

Happy reading!
