Celebrating Community Ownership

Public Power & Public Natural Gas Week 2016
November 18, 2016

Greenville Utilities celebrated Public Power Week and Public Natural Gas Week October 2 - 8, 2016. These annual events give GUC a chance to celebrate all of the advantages that we, as a locally owned and operated utility, provide our community.

We shared the many benefits of being a public utility with customers and employees in a variety of ways. Public Information hand delivered cups and pens to all GUC employees throughout the week, and also ran print ads in The Daily Reflector. Customers received promotional balloons, cups, and pens at the Main Office and Express Office.  Our website also highlighted the advantages of our publicly-owned systems.

In addition, Social media added to our ability to share the news with our customers through a variety of messages and images on both our Facebook and Twitter pages. Public Information also hosted a "tweet-along" where they created a virtual ride-along with a gas crew by sharing photos and facts in real-time on Twitter and Facebook, documenting the installation of a new residential gas service line.

We also continued our new tradition of participating in Freeboot Friday. Uptown Greenville coordinates Freeboot Fridays on the eve of ECU home football games. There's live music, beverages, activities for children and plenty of good company. Even though Freeboot didn't fall during Public Power Week and Public Natural Gas Week, we kicked it off a little early at Freeboot on September 30th. Freebooters were able to spin the prize wheel to get promotional items and they also enjoyed bucket truck rides.
