Service Awards

John Sheppard / 30 Years

John Sheppard, Senior Gas Service Worker, celebrated 30 years of service with GUC. His daily work involves meeting with customers to turn on natural gas service, unlocking gas meters, lighting customer pilots, responding to inside gas leaks, and troubleshooting problems customers may be experiencing with inside piping or appliances. “I enjoy interacting with our customers and meeting new customers,” he said. “I also like the fellowship with my coworkers.” 

 

 

Tracy Colville / 25 Years

Water Resources Equipment Operator IV Tracy Colville recently celebrated 25 years of service with GUC. Tracy is on one of the five crews whose responsibilities range from medium and heavy construction jobs to troubleshooting service work. His crew primarily handles new water/sewer taps and installations. Tracy has been a Lighthouse Observer for several years and recently joined the Lighthouse Steering Team. “I like being outside and working with great people,” said Tracy. “Things have changed in a lot of different ways -- all for the best. Time has gone by fast and I’m looking forward to what the next five years bring.” 

 

Sharon Corey / 20 Years

Sharon Corey, Customer Records Clerk in the Electric Department, recently celebrated 20 years of service with Greenville Utilities. Sharon is responsible for processing work and service orders. This is a major part of the job for the Electric administrative staff, and they are cross-trained and work together as a team. “Joining GUC 20 years ago has enhanced my life,” said Sharon. “I’ve made lifetime friendships and will always cherish my time at Greenville Utilities.” 

 

 


Chris Rouse / 20 Years

Chris Rouse, Gas Systems Crew Leader II, recently celebrated 20 years of service with GUC. Chris oversees a Heavy Construction Crew that installs and repairs distribution mains that range from 2” – 8” throughout our system, as well as the building of steel industrial meter sets. He is also one of two certified welders at GUC who performs welding on the steel lines in our system. “I really enjoy working with my coworkers every day,” said Chris. “They are like my second family. I also enjoy training new hires and seeing them succeed in their careers. I love the challenges of the heavy construction side of the Gas Department and take pride in getting those jobs completed.”

Congratulations to Human Resources Director Richie Shreves on the recent birth of her first grandson, Camden Knox Shay. 

Congratulations to Electric Overhead Lineworker David Bunch on the birth of his daughter, Olivia Mae. 

Congratulations also to Gas Systems Technician Chris Wallace on the birth of his daughter, Addilynn Brooke. 

Congratulations to Electric Overhead Lineworker Oscar Meeks on the birth of his daughter,  Emmalynn Pearl. 

Accomplishments 

Purchasing Officer Cleve Haddock received his recertification as a Certified Local Government Purchasing Officer (CLGPO) through the University of North Carolina School of Government and the Certification Committee of the Carolinas Association of Governmental Purchasing. Recertification confirms his continued professional excellence and validates his hard work and effort to expand his expertise in public procurement. CLGPO certifications are valid for a five-year period. Congratulations, Cleve! 

Sympathies

Our deepest condolences to Mark Andrews, Overhead Lineworker First Class, on the passing of his father, Joseph “Joe” Bailey Andrews. 

Our condolences are also extended to Fleet Mechanic Supervisor Mike Adams and his family on the passing of his son-in-law, Michael Mahoney. 

Our sympathies are extended to Utility Locator Billy Colon and his family on the passing of his mother-in-law, Claire Albert.  

Our sympathies are also extended to the family of retiree Kirby Boyd on his passing. Kirby served as GUC’s Right-of-Way Officer for many years.
