Electric
The Board of Commissioners approved moving forward with two solar panel-related items previously discussed in September. First, is an opportunity for customers to participate in a 500 kW Community Solar Project. Customers may subscribe for up to five panels for a monthly fee. Next, they adopted a third rate option for customers with residential solar panels. Effective November 1st, customers will have the choice of which of the three rates could work best for them.
Commissioners also approved a new power purchase agreement between the North Carolina Eastern Municipal Power Agency (NCEMPA, which purchases on behalf of GUC) and Duke Energy Progress. Duke successfully petitioned the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to modify the terms of the current contract. The new contract requires GUC to create a new electric rate for large, interruptible customers. This only affects interruptible customers with a load greater than 1 MW. GUC does not currently have any customers who fall under this new rate.
Water Resources
The Board accepted a bid for T.A. Loving to build improvements at the Frog Level Pump Station. The project includes new pumps, piping, valves, backup generator, improvements to the electrical system, and about 1,400 feet of force main.
