Greg Lyons  / 21 years

Greg Lyons, Infiltration/Inflow (I/I) Inspector, recently celebrated 21 years of service with GUC. He is part of the Water Resources team that inspects, cleans, and maintains the gravity sewer lines on GUC's system. Greg's main responsibility is to run the TV inspection program that helps our crews uncover leaks, broken pipes, and uncover I/I in the sewer system (I/I is extraneous water that gets into the system). TV inspection uses a closed circuit television camera to document any problems found during the inspection. Greg also does sewer outfall inspections and helps maintain our sewer right-of-ways and manhole covers, among other things as needed. "The best thing about my job is coming to work with some of the friends I've made over the past 21 years," he said. Greg and his wife, Tonya, have a son who is a junior at ECU, a daughter going to Appalachian State University in the fall, and a daughter finishing up her freshman year of high school. In his spare time, Greg enjoys watching his youngest daughter play volleyball, making wood chairs, putting together puzzles, collecting coins, and working around the house and yard.

Rodney Sutton  / 20 years

Load Management Technician Rodney Sutton recently celebrated 20 years of service with GUC. Load Management Technicians have a considerable amount of customer contact and do a great job of promoting a positive image for GUC. They are responsible for installing and maintaining the load switches for Beat The Peak (GUC's residential load management program), which includes inspection of all switches at least once every five years, an ongoing process. They also refuel the generators of our industrial customers several times a month depending on demand usage. "I enjoy working with our customers," said Rodney. "The best part is helping a customer understand something [about the process] that wasn't clear to them." Rodney and his wife of 21 years, Heather, enjoy staying busy with their four children (two sons and two daughters). Rodney also enjoys inshore and offshore fishing during his spare time.
