Service Awards

Scott Getsinger / 25 Years
Scott Getsinger, Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Maintenance Mechanic II, recently celebrated 25 years with GUC. Scott is part of the team responsible for keeping all of the mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and instrumentation systems operable at the WWTP, as well as the 39 remote pump stations that send the flow to the treatment plant. Scott is a multi-skilled “jack of all trades” with knowledge of electronics, electrical systems, pumps, motors, hydraulics, and pump mechanics. Scott has a Grade 2 Maintenance Technology certification and a Grade 4 Collection Systems Operator certification through the state. “GUC has been a pretty cool place to work,” he said. “It’s always an adventure, and everyone here is great to work with.”

Billy Owens / 20 Years
Billy Owens, Overhead Lineworker First Class, recently celebrated 20 years of service with GUC. Billy is part of an Overhead Service Crew that performs maintenance on overhead and underground lines and works on installation and maintenance of streetlights. They also work on restoring power during storms, which is one of the things Billy likes best about his job. “It’s very satisfying to get power back on for our customers,” he said. “Their gratitude makes it all worthwhile.” Billy also serves on the Lighthouse Steering Team and helps train new Observers.

Jerry Adams / 20 Years

Jerry Adams, Master Mechanic in Fleet Maintenance, recently celebrated 20 years with GUC. Jerry is responsible for preparing new vehicles to fit the needs of each department and crew. This includes welding, fabrication, and electrical modifications such as battery tamers, pipe racks, ladder racks, safety lights (i.e., lights under and on top of the trucks and in tool bins, etc.), and wiring radios and electrical equipment, to name a few. When time allows, Jerry also assists the other Mechanics with routine maintenance and servicing of GUC’s fleet. “I like that every day is different,” said Jerry. “Each department has different needs, and I enjoy working with them on what they need and making it happen. I’ve also seen a lot of changes here over the last 20 years with how we outfit the vehicles, mostly related to improving the safety of our crews.”

Kevin Keyzer / 20 Years

Kevin Keyzer, Risk and Facilities Manager, oversees the Risk and Facilities section of the Finance Department, which includes Buildings and Grounds, the Safety Office, the Lighthouse Process, Security, and the Occupational Health Clinic. Kevin started out at GUC in the Safety Office, and has been in his current position since 2008. He and his staff of 12 work hard to help reduce our exposure to risk, and to help improve and maintain our facilities. Often, you'll find them working before and after business hours to ensure that our facilities and on-call crews are taken care of during storms and other emergencies. They also play a big role in projects such as our Main Office renovation that was completed this year and our new Operations Center. “I really enjoy working with others to help them overcome challenges,” said Kevin. "I also enjoy the regular opportunity to be a part of a team that protects, renews, and builds new and better things. Seeing our team, committees, and the organization succeed is very rewarding.”

Thank You's

Our customer, Ms. Giri, sent a note complimenting Customer Contact Representative II Tee Taylor for providing excellent customer service while assisting Ms. Giri with a billing question. “Tee was very patient to review our accounts, analyze the water/electric usage for the past year, and get an electric crew to check out everything,” wrote Ms. Giri. “Thank you, Tee, for going above and beyond your call of duty on a late Friday evening. It’s always a great pleasure to work with a dedicated customer specialist like you.”

Our Water Resources Distribution Crews received a lot of appreciation on GUC’s social media sites for the hard work put into repairing the damaged water main under the intersection of Charles Blvd. and 14th Street in early September. Be sure to browse through those. In the meantime, here is a snapshot of some messages and comments:

  • Steven Hardee - My hat's off to your crews who work in these tough conditions.
  • Sue Sturton Daggett - We've lived in two other places, one other state. GUC is remarkably reliable.
  • Michael B. Brown - Thanks for everyone’s hard work on this, especially in the heat!
  • Margaret Fox Cutrell - Great job guys! Thanks!
