Liquified Natural Gas Tanks for LNG Plant Expansion
The Board approved moving forward with purchasing the first two tanks to be included in the expansion of the LNG plant. This facility is where natural gas is stored in a liquid state for use during times of high demand. Delivery of these tanks will take place in about 24 months. The long-term expansion plans call for a total of six additional tanks (doubling our current capacity).

Water Main Extension to Whitehurst Station
This is a section of the county without access to a public water system with roughly 100 residents who depend on private wells, many of them with water quality and availability issues. This project proposes to serve 18 homes with a water main along Staton Mill Road and fits into GUC’s long-term growth plans for future development. Pitt County has committed $1 million from the American Rescue Plan Act to help pay for the project.

Wastewater Treatment Plant Clarifier Replacement
One of the Plant’s clarifiers buckled and failed in 2019 and needs to be replaced. The Board approved accepting a bid for this project that would replace the failed clarifier as well as add another clarifier to the south side of the Plant, which helps meet our current capacity and be well-positioned for future expansion. GUC will use a $4.5M grant from the US Economic Development Administration to partially fund the project.
