Fan Donation Tradition Continues
Greenville Utilities is helping provide relief from the heat for some local residents by purchasing 100 fans for those in need. For more than 25 years, GUC has provided fans to be distributed to the elderly, handicapped, and qualifying families with small children.
"The heat and humidity of our summers here in eastern North Carolina can create a real hardship and suffering for the families who lack air conditioning or fans," said Tony Cannon, General Manager/CEO of Greenville Utilities. "Fans are an economical way to get some relief from the heat, and we are pleased to provide them as a gesture of community support."
GUC Energy Services employees delivered fans to the Pitt County Council on Aging, the Pitt County Department of Social Services, and the Greenville Housing Authority on June 29th. The fans will be available for distribution to the public through all three of those agencies.
Parents for Public Schools
Molly Ortiz, Senior Financial Planning and Rates Analyst, represented GUC in the Parents for Public Schools’ Parent Engagement Program (PEP) and Academy over the past year, and recently graduated from the program. PEP is a year-long parent leadership program designed to increase positive parent engagement and enhance school-parent collaboration. The classes are conducted by nationally trained facilitators and cover topics such as school curriculum, data, testing, and leadership.
Chamber Leadership
Water Treatment Plant Laboratory Manager Chad Flannagan, Electric Substation Control Engineer John Powell, and Collections Manager Brian Weigand recently graduated from the Greenville-Pitt County Chamber of Commerce Leadership Institute. Over the course of eight months, they learned about issues facing our community, developed skills needed to enhance leadership strengths, and learned how to become involved in leadership roles in our community.
