Kay Spriggs Retires
Kay Spriggs, Human Resources (HR) Specialist II, has retired after 16 years of service with GUC. Our HR Specialists work with the HR Business Partners as the primary resource for all policies, benefits, and employee relations questions, concerns, issues, recruitment (including interview panels), E-Business Suite (EBS), and on-boarding activities.
Kay worked directly with the Electric Department, General Manager’s Office (including Business Development, Legal, and Public Information) and the Greenville ENC Alliance. In addition, she served on the OPTICS Core Team that helped launch EBS.
Kay also assisted with HR’s overall internal and external outreach programs and events like family days, holiday parties, and career fairs, and other recruitment efforts.
"The best part of my job has been providing exceptional customer service," Kay said. "What I’ll miss the most is giving job applicants the good news of getting a job offer and hearing them get excited.”
Before joining GUC, Kay worked at Rubbermaid for 23 years. When the company closed down, she took the opportunity to go back to school. Before and during her career at GUC, Kay has earned an associate degree in office systems technology from Pitt Community College as well as a bachelor’s degree in multidisciplinary studies and a master’s in human services from Liberty University.
In retirement, Kay plans to spend more time with her family, church, and fishing from her boat, the Sea Angel. Originally from Pitt County, Kay and her husband, David, have a daughter, Montisha, and Goddaughter, Shray. Kay also has seven brothers and two sisters. Her husband, who is already retired, is excited about her retirement and already planning a cruise.
When not fishing or cooking out with family, Kay spends most of her weekends at Holly Hill Free Will Baptist Church in Belvoir as a praise and worship leader and a pianist. She looks forward to spending more time at the church and volunteering with the church’s many outreach programs.
Kay, we wish you the very best in retirement!
