Microsoft Edge to Replace Internet Explorer

Microsoft Edge to Replace Internet Explorer

October 31, 2021

Microsoft has announced that Microsoft Edge will be replacing Internet Explorer (IE), which will be retired on June 15, 2022. In preparation for the June deadline, our Information Technology (IT) Department has installed Microsoft Edge on all of our workstations and laptops.

“Microsoft Edge offers a faster and more secure browsing experience than IE,” said Network Analyst III Chris Hurdle. “Edge also has what Microsoft calls an IE mode that offers built-in compatibility for both legacy and modern websites and apps. This means that older websites and applications developed for IE will continue to work in Edge through IE mode.”

After the IE desktop application is retired in June, it will be out of support and disabled on all GUC owned devices with the Windows operating system. If a user tries to access IE, they will be redirected to Edge. In addition, if an employee encounters a broken application or website that requires IE, they should contact the IT Help Desk at extension 1911, 252-551-3372 or helpdesk@guc.com.
