Lighthouse: Barrier Removed with Side Grinders

Lighthouse: Barrier Removed with Side Grinders

April 24, 2020

Gas Department employees have a better way to mark where new services are installed.

Crews had been using chisel hammers to carve a G into the curb to mark where gas service is installed.  During a Lighthouse observation, it was noticed that using the chisel hammers this way caused cement to chip off and fly up, possibly putting employees at risk for injury.

The chisel hammers have been replaced with side grinders to cut the letter G into the curb. This rechargeable, battery-powered tool gives crews an easier and safer way to identify our customers with gas service.
