HR Administrative Assistant
September 29, 2017

Scott Jablonski, Human Resources (HR) Administrative Assistant, has recently taken a new role at Greenville Utilities. As the Administrative Assistant, Scott's responsibilities and duties have increased.

Before his current title, Scott was the temporary HR Support Clerk. His main responsibility was ensuring that the print shop was running smoothly in addition to helping with internal mailings, updating training manuals, helping the Finance Department with payroll periods, and assisting with employee activities and events, like the Holiday Party and Family Day.

Scott was hired full time in December 2016, and was promoted to his current job in June of this year. He is now also responsible for a variety of tasks from performance reviews and work charts to purchase orders and flyers for HR and the Health Clinic. In addition, Scott has recently joined our United Way Committee.

"It's a good place to work and a great organization," Scott said. "I really enjoy meeting people."

Scott received a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin at LaCrosse in 2014. Prior to his employment with GUC, he worked for the County Veteran Service Office for the City of LaCrosse. He counseled veterans, assisted them with their benefits, and helped with connecting them to available resources. He also worked for the LaCrosse Arts Initiative where he collaborated with a team of artists building sculptures, floats, large-scale murals, and organizing art-related events throughout the city.

Scott and his wife, Nicole, have been married for almost ten years and have a 4-year-old daughter, Rowan Grace. They also have three, four-legged children: Boris, Charlie, and Kerry. With his family in Massachusetts and Nicole's family in Georgia, the couple decided to move from Wisconsin to North Carolina about two years ago. "We wanted to be closer to family, and North Carolina was a great middle point for both of us," Scott said.

An Appeal to Heaven

In his free time, Scott enjoys painting, and recently won first place at the Ayden Collard Festival for his acrylics. His love for art began when he was six-years-old, painting Christmas tree ornaments. "My mom taught me how to paint when I was really young," he said. "She did mostly arts and crafts painting, so that's why I started out on ornaments." Once his experience progressed, he took interest in landscape paintings. "Over the years I began creating paintings of people's houses, and even their pets, and I enjoyed every bit of it."

What some may not know is that Scott was in the Navy for five years and was deployed in March 2008. "I was deployed for eight months, just a few short months after getting married," he said. In the Navy, Scott was an avionics technician working on electronics attack aircraft, and his experience is reflected in his most recent paintings. "Many of my latest paintings involve a military or airplane theme," he said. In fact, the painting that won at the Collard Festival was a military piece (pictured above).

Scott says he is very thankful to be a part of GUC. His creative hard work and determination do not go unnoticed, and we are proud to have him as part of our team.
