Cashier I

Cashier I Pamela Barnes stays busy both within and outside of GUC. Pamela has been working here for almost three years and says that she continues to grow and learn as much as possible.

Cashiers rotate between the Main Office in Uptown and the Express location on Greenville Boulevard. Currently, Pamela is located in the Main Office where she works in both the front and back offices. While in the front office, she works directly with customers by taking payments, explaining bills, or sending them to customer service. When she is called to the back office, her research begins. "In the back room we make deposits and do research for customers over the phone," she said.

Pamela says her favorite parts of the job are the customers and the co-workers. "We all pull together as a team and help each other out whether it's personal or business-related." She also loves that none of our customers are the same and she never knows what to expect, but knows that her duty is to always be there for the customer and help them in every way possible.

"Working during the flood after Hurricane Matthew was a first for me as a GUC employee," said Pamela. "Seeing everyone pitch in and help as a GUC family is an experience I'll never forget. That is why I'm proud to work here."

Pamela also enjoys helping out when GUC is involved in community events like PirateFest, Freeboot Friday, etc. "I'm a true fan of helping out when an extra hand is needed," she said. "Plus it makes me happy to work with other employees from different departments who I don't get to see or work with often."

Before coming to GUC, Pamela received her Associate of Arts in Criminal Justice at Pitt Community College (PCC). After graduation from PCC, Pamela went to the Police Academy to wrap up her Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET), then continued her education at East Carolina University. She was employed as a Police Officer for two and a half years in Greenville and Williamston. After deciding she wanted to work closer to home and spend more time with her son, Jayron, Pamela made a career change to customer service. She spent nine years with Wachovia/Wells Fargo as a Teller, Banker, and Customer Service Representative.

Originally from Hamilton, North Carolina, Pamela comes from a large family. She is one of nine kids (five sisters and three brothers), and has two brothers-in-law, and 14 nieces and nephews. "I love being from a one stoplight town, and I love having my family within driving distance," said Pamela. "We all just like spending time together because family means everything to us." Pamela's family throws holiday parties at her mom's house and vacations in Pawley's Island, South Carolina for a week every year.

While her big family takes up a lot of her spare time, Pamela's life revolves around her son. Jayron is a rising junior in high school and is active in baseball and basketball. He is currently playing both sports in the AAU league, and Pamela is always there watching and supporting him.

Outside of being her son's number one fan, Pamela enjoys cooking for family events, traveling, and shopping. She also spends a lot of time volunteering at her church and in the community. Being a multi-tasker is a joy to Pamela and she doesn't plan to slow down anytime soon.
