David Moore Retires
David Moore, Damage Prevention Technician II, has retired after 26 years of service with Greenville Utilities. As a Prevention Technician, he worked with the Underground Locating Services (ULS) Section, which is essential to all our operating departments. Although ULS is housed in Gas, this section provides an essential service to all of our operating departments. When a contractor or customer plans excavation or digging work, state law requires them to call NC 811 to request all underground lines be marked.
David used different types of equipment and methods, including GIS (Geographic Information System) mapping and ground penetrating radar to find each underground facility in the proposed digging sites. The areas are marked with colored flags and spray paint to indicate the type of service that is underground. The team responds to an average of over 19,000 locate requests per year, which helps to avoid costly repairs.
In retirement, David looks forward to spending more time with his wife of 29 years and their two adult children and granddaughter. “My family is the greatest thing that God has blessed me with,” he said. “I also plan on enjoying more music, preaching, and traveling.”
Congratulations, David, on your retirement!
