Mike Adams Retires

Mike Adams Retires

February 28, 2022

Mike Adams, Fleet Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor, has retired after almost 22 years of service with Greenville Utilities. Mike oversaw the daily operations of the shop and the Master Mechanics. Our Garage has a staff of Master Mechanics with more than 75 years of combined experience and factory training in the field of automotive and diesel diagnostics and repair. This team is responsible for the routine maintenance and servicing of GUC’s fleet of approximately 270 vehicles and 283 pieces of equipment, which also includes “in servicing” of new vehicles and equipment (logo decals, safety outfitting, etc.). The team works well together in not only taking care of the daily needs of our growing fleet, but to assist crews with unforeseen issues that arise when out in the field or on out-of-town emergency mutual aid events. Like our crews, Mechanics also get the occasional after-hours call.

“When you’ve worked with people this long, they become like family, and that’s the biggest part I’ll miss,” said Mike. “I’ve enjoyed the comradery we have at the garage and how well we all work through things together. And I’ve enjoyed getting to know employees over the years as they come through the garage.”

Mike’s father, Troy Adams, was GUC’s Fleet Supervisor for 16 years, and Mike says he’s proud to have followed in his father’s footsteps. Mike and Pam, his wife of 37 years, have one adult daughter, Kameron, and three grandkids, Olivia (12), Brayden (10), and Ethan (6). Pam recently retired from ECU’s Brody School of Medicine, so the two are looking forward to spending more time with the grandchildren and traveling to the mountains. Mike also looks forward to more hunting and fishing, also with his grandkids.

Mike, we wish you the best in retirement!
