New iLead Class Begins After Two-Year Pause
Greenville Utilities' iLead program has returned with its fifth class. This group of 11 employees was initially set to begin the program in April 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic prevented their class from starting. They finally came together for orientation on August 24th and 25th. The 2022 iLead participants are: Chris Bright (Gas), David Bunch (Electric), Kim Coggins (Finance), Wade Corbitt (WTP), Leah Herring (HR), Kevin Lockamy (Fleet Maintenance), Kenny McDonald (Fleet Maintenance), Emily Smith (Customer Relations), David Telfair, Jr. (Gas), Amanda Wall (Finance), and LeAnne Wetherington (Customer Relations).
iLead is our internal leadership, education, and development program that was designed to help employees prepare for leadership positions within GUC. In order to participate in iLead, employees must demonstrate their leadership abilities, community interests and involvement, and the desire to assume expanded leadership responsibilities. Employees apply to iLead by completing an application, assessment and multi-step screening process, which includes an interview by a Selection Committee made of members from our Management Team.
iLead participants receive more than 80 hours of general "core curriculum" training over a nine-month period. That includes topics such as project management and leadership essentials, as well as assignments like attending certain meetings and conducting a group project. For the final project, the class is divided into groups to develop project ideas that could be implemented by GUC. The focus of each group project must be aligned with one of four parts of GUC’s mission statement (customer service, safety, employees, and environment). Each group presents their ideas to the Management Team as a final step required to graduate from the program.
